We passed the morning at the archaeological site of Carthage, which according to Roman legend was founded in 814 BC! We enjoyed climbing around the ancient ruins as we struggled to imagined the massive size of the Roman Baths that once stood on the site.
We spent the afternoon at the Medina, or old city, a beautiful and well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage Site. We finally arrived at the Souk, or market, ready to haggle with the locals. A dense maze of alleys and passages wind through the market. Shops overflow with incense and perfumes, craftsmen offer leather purses and wallets, women weave beautiful rugs, trade is loud and persistent. With the local prayer echoing through the city, we climbed a rooftop and enjoyed a beautiful panoramic view of the colors and architecture of the surrounding souk.
