A bit more time in Bangkok!

After several days of exploring Bangkok with new hostel friends, I was DELIGHTED to meet up with a few dear, old friends from college!! Megan, Tad, Mandie and Tim, it was awesome to see you guys!!

We found a wonderful guesthouse, tucked away off the busy Khao San Road. After a nice breakfast followed by a long nap, we were ready to hit the crazy streets of Bangkok. We walked around town, stumbling upon FREE bikes for rental! We passed the afternoon exploring the city on two wheels, cutting in and out of traffic, careful to avoid speeding motorbikes, stopping to take photos of the beautiful temples, and finally enjoying delicious pad thai and tea near the river. An awesome day with wonderful friends!

The next day, we boarded several "local" ferries and cruised through the river to Wat Arun, a Buddhist temple on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. We hiked the steep steps leading up the terrace and enjoyed a picturesque view of the river and surrounding rooftops. We spent the afternoon in the city center, stopping at the house of Jim Thompson, an American businessman who helped restore the Thai silk industry in the 1950s and 1960s. We relaxed each evening, enjoying a foot massage on the sidewalk, swimming in the chilly waters of the rooftop swimming pool, enjoying tasty food, and listening to live music.

After several short days together, Megan, Tad, Mandie and Tim jumped on a bus headed to Krabi and I prepared to fly to Ho Chi Minh City. It was so good to see you guys!! Safe travels and I hope we cross paths again soon. : )
