Catania, Italy

Catania is an Itlaian city on the east coast of Sicily, known to have a seismic history and past from the neighboring Mount Etna!

Dave and I jumped into the back of a jeep and a hit a few non-surfaced roads to explore the tallest active volcano in Europe, standing 10,922 ft high! We drove past rustic farms and vineyards and beautiful villages at the base of the mountain. We continued our journey up the winding mountain roads higher and further from the gorgeous blue sea.

Bouncing along in the back seat, careful not to hit each other or the roof with each new bump, we finally arrived at an extinct crater, formed during the eruption of 1865. We hiked the crater, enjoyed a panoramic view of the city, and gazed up at the ominous, snowy summit above. A highly feared mountain and a beautiful view of the Sicilian countryside below!
