Peak season in the Greek Isles ended in mid-September so the islands, Ios included, are sleepy. Most restaurant and shops have closed, ATV and boat rental stores are hard to come by and locals far outweigh tourists.
My hostel was absolutely beautiful, built into the side of the hill with a pool and terrace overlooking the Port. Flowers cascading above the white stone and stunning views of the sunset each night. Out hostel had about 15 people at any given time, so we became close very fast. We passed the days on the beach, soaking up the sun and swimming. We spent the afternoons enjoying the traditional island siesta (nap time) before waking up to marvel at the beauty of the setting sun, brilliant pinks and oranges filling the sky. Dinner varied - Thai food, traditional Greek cuisine, and the BEST soft tacos ever! We spent the evening and morning hours enjoying the infamous Ios nightlife.
I left the beach, sad to say goodbye to new friends, before boarding my ferry. As much as I loved Ios, sleep was hard to come by on this island. I am ready to head back to Athens for a few days to regroup before meeting Jen in Dublin!
